If the Phone Doesn’t Ring, It’s Me

3340199839.jpg  Well, the weeks prior to the holiday break, I was in the mood for some xmas cheer. I had heard about some concerts being held at the church right by my place. So, on Sat. evening, instead of going out on the town, I decided to attend the xmas concert hosted by the University of Portland singers. Seemed like a great idea, especially since the concert was advertised as free. So around 6:30pm I arrive, proud of the fact that I had showed up early for a change. I took in the wonderfully festive lights, and began to walk in. The doorman(can you believe they had a doorman-well, he was more like a ticket taker, but if anyone will side with me, calling him a door man might help) asked for my ticket. I was shocked. I gave him the “what are you talking about” face. I said, “Isn’t this a free concert?” “Yes it is” he replied, “but everyone must have a ticket”. “Hold on. This is a free concert, but you need tickets? How does this work?” So this song and dance went on for a few more minutes, but the gist of it was that yes it was free, but you had to get tickets before-hand, since it was a capacity crowd. So I sulked my way back home, in the rain, and re-read the posting that I had read in the newspaper. Sure enough, as I angrily read through the advertisement, in the smallest print you could imagine, it said to call a certain number to inquire about tickets. Shut out number one.
