And as we have been battling days, weeks of rain and cold here in Portland, I hear back home in KC it has been much of the same. Nonetheless, I have been battling the cold days, and even colder nights by still enjoying the KU victory. I just finished reading the magazines and newspaper articles that my mom sent from home. The days are getting longer for sure, and the light is at the end of the tunnel. Today was near the 70’s as was yesterday. Sunshine and warmth my friends, is just around the corner.
I spent about 4 hours yesterday just wandering. I was thinking about this while I was at the Pioneer Courthouse Square, which is a gathering place of sorts, for the young and old, bizarre and unique, those looking to protest, and those just protesting the thought of doing anything other than sitting down and relaxing(of which category I qualified for). I spent so much time at so many different places within the downtown Portland area, and didn’t spend a dime. Nor did I use a vehicle, yet I traveled over 6 or 7 miles for sure. I started by heading to the farmers market at PSU. From there I went to the Oregon Duck Store, and read (most) of a great book from a local writer about life and sports. Easy, and fun read. From there I headed down to the waterfront, on the south end. I also spent some time wandering around some stores, and then headed to the rooftop garden for some reading and more relaxation. I love city life, for the most part. It is just so different from the burbs. I’m sure soon enough I’ll be back in some culdesac with rows of houses of the same tint, but for now, I’m a city boy.
