So this portion of the early summer (for me), rather late for those in Kansas, I am going to travel some with family while they are in town. We went to Hood River, after stopping at Multnomah Falls. Both were nice, we hiked to the top of the falls, about a mile, and then went down another trail before turning around. The avacado that I had purchased on Tuesday was just perfect by Thur for lunch at the top of the falls. I would like to someday make that 6 mile or so trek that continues past the falls. The hike up the falls is switchback, straight up, and paved, so even those with no hiking experience can make the journey, should they be so inclined. But it is rather steep, so bring some water for sure.
Hood River was a nice, quaint town. I can see myself visiting again, and it is only about an hour away from Portland down highway 84. The Columbia River Gorge area is just great, very peaceful, serene. Hood River has some nice views, and down the “Fruit Loop” as they call it, which is a stretch of several miles of local fruit stands and wineries, you can catch great glimpses of Mt. Adams in Washington and Mt. Hood in Oregon. In Hood River there are also several nice restaurants and other shops, as well as surf and windsurfing shops. I hear the winds can get up to 90mph, and the waves are great. I don’t think that I’m quite ready for that. We ate at the 6th Street Bistro, which I recommend. Especially on a hot day like it was, a lighter meal was perfect, with fresh, locally grown products. Salmon tasted good, which my brother gave me some from his plate, and my BLT was delicious.
Up next, a trip to Astoria on the coast, perhaps Mt. St. Helens, and also a trip to Eugene for the Olympic Trials before the visit wraps up with a run at Sauvie Island for the 1/2 marathon, which I will be cheering my brother and his wife on as they run. Speaking of running, I am competing in a relay in about 6 weeks, with zero weeks of training so far. My ankle is coming along, I thought I would wait until July 16th or so to start, but I think July 7th is the new date. Take care, hope that the summer is going well for everyone.
