The Olympic Trials are over, I’m excited to say that I was able to attend on July 3rd. I saw some great competition. The high jump was going on, along with the women’s long jump. I love field events the most, but I was also able to see my favorite race, the 400m final. I also saw the steeple chase as well as the 1500 qualifying rounds. Other events: 800m wheelchair, 3000m masters, hammer/shot put. Without a doubt that will be the best track competition that I will probably ever see. Who knows, the trials come back to Eugene in 2012.
It was fun watching them on tv today, even though I had to wait until 7pm my time (tape delayed). That was a great 1500m race. I wish they showed more of the triple jump. Anyhow, that was a glimpse of what Oregon has to offer. Pretty sweet, huh? I think so at least. That is a great place to watch a meet, and the weather is great for running. When the sun sets on that stadium, its a nice sight for sure. I could see how it would not be ideal for sprinters/jumpers however, but that has never been the strength, nor have they desired it to be. Distance is king in Eugene, and there’s no reason to change that.
As for me, the rest of the mid part of July I will be doing some work on prepping for certification requirements that I need for employment. Lots of phone calls, emails, and paper work. But it needs to be done, at least until I find that pot of gold I’ve been looking for the past few years. Summer birthdays are happening, and I won’t be around. My brother Christian just had a birthday in late spring, and my mom and brother Anthony are June/July. Hec, I’ll be home for August, but then come back to Oregon just in time to miss my own birthday celebration in Kansas. That’s just the way it is.
In terms of trips, after the 10 days with the family in town, I need a rest. They traveled quite a bit, and I went with them on most trips, except to Mt. Hood and the second trip to the coast. We went to Astoria, and that was nice. I like that town. We hiked a trail, and had some of the best fish and chips, some small boat (on land of course) sells them. Fresh and fried, can’t beat it. Fourth of July fire works from the rooftop were nice as well. Great night for that, and you could see them in all directions for miles and miles. Well, take care everyone. Hope that July is treating you well, and continues to do so.
